OUR STRATEGY

Enhancing Research and Development

Our first strategy focuses on fortifying the research and development environment within the domain of digital technologies at the University of the West of Scotland (UWS). We have pioneered the development of a campus-wide Internet of Things (IoT) testbed, featuring both indoor and outdoor gateways. This initiative has garnered substantial support, securing funding from prestigious bodies including the British Council, QNRF, the Scottish Government, and Erasmus+. Our efforts have led to the publication of over 150 research articles and numerous keynote presentations at flagship IEEE conferences.

Fostering Industry Collaborations

Building trustworthy partnerships with industry is crucial. Our second strategy addresses this by actively sharing resources, including our time and facilities like our test bed and equipment, to support the vision of our industry partners. This collaboration extends to involving MSc and Honours students in real-world projects, enhancing their learning and practical experience. We have successfully acquired over 1 million Pounds in funding for five Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) projects. Notably, our recent KTP project with Fido Tech was recognized with a commendation at the Herald Higher Education Awards, underlining our commitment to impactful industry collaboration.

Developing Talent and Supporting Careers

Our third strategic pillar is dedicated to producing high-quality personnel and bolstering the support for early-career researchers and students. We have cultivated a superconductive environment for learning and innovation at UWS. This nurturing setting enriches our knowledge base in digital technologies and prepares our graduates for successful careers, equipped with skills highly valued in the marketplace.
